Dr. Brian Chad Starks Book Dr. Starks

Healthcare and human services

For healthcare and hospice organizations, human services providers, counseling professionals, and the leaders responsible for their culture. Dr. Starks has consulted for a hospice provider, spoken at a state conference for healthcare and hospice employees, and led a workshop for the governing council of the American Counseling Association.

What the work addresses

Healthcare runs on relationships: between clinicians and patients, and between colleagues in very different roles. Dr. Starks applies the four constructs to those professional relationships, to the culture an organization builds around them, and to the responsibility its leaders carry for both.

Many of his trainings open with the environment people come from: poverty, low educational attainment, unemployment, crime, and poor health conditions. Those conditions shape the lives of the people a provider serves. The work asks staff to understand them, and their own place in them, before trying to change anything.

"Get uncomfortable to get comfortable."

One Framework, applied to healthcare

Every engagement is built on the Be The Messenger Framework: four constructs, and the Messenger Method that runs underneath them. The Framework stays the same from one field to the next. What changes is how it is applied to the specific challenges, culture, professional responsibilities, and institutional conditions of the people in the room.
